Info Needed for college project

hi

i'm currently studying GNVQ media at college and need help with a project we're doin in DTP.

our task is to create a careers leaflet about any career in the media. i've picked a film director as it's what i want to eventually do. however, i need help on how u can become one, namely the qualifications, experiance and any other usful stuff.

we also have to do a profile on a succesful person in our chosen career. i've picked Michael Bay (Bad Boys, The Rock, Armaggedon and Pearl Harbor) as he's currently my favourite director.

its a tough one to answer. I dont think there is any straight answer. Id recommend you goto the Internet movie database (www.imdb.com) and look up a few biographys of famous directors, see how they did it.
Obviously some sort of film knowledge, both technical and artistic is needed, you can get that any which way you like, but also a business sense, know a lot of people, and have a lot of luck!

Basically if you have directed a few films then you are film director. In my experience (Low Budget) this is not just directing actors and camera angles, but is a lot like directing any company, so any experience in this that you can get is valuable.

There seem to be two distinct types of director though. Those that work for a studio - basically jobbing directors, and those that raise all the cash, and get a producer themselves, the independant way.

As I say I only know the independant way, and all you need to do that is be able to raise money, organise and work with people and equipment, tell them what to do, and be incredibly patient and work long hours to get it finished.

some people go to film school, some dont....
